So, I was feeding some ducks with bread the other day…
They were jolly fellows, and seemed utterly fearless too :D Only a few chunks of bread later they were fully willing to take the pieces right of my fingertips.
After the three had eaten half a loaf of bread, they calmly retreated to a nice afternoon nap.
They were really cute, but the more interesting part came after this. A crow had been patiently observing everything from a near by tree.
I threw a few chunks of bread in hopes of him coming to me for it as the ducks had, but he was far less tame than they had been. Turned out he was far more clever too. He waited patiently for the right moment, which appeared, when I moved further a way from the bread crumblings and to an angle where my bike was between them and me.
He stuffed his beak full of the bread chunks, using a nearby rock to aid the process.
And with that, he majestically walked of to the bushes somewhere to feast in privacy.
I was left in awe by the beauty and intelligence of these underrated birds.
A dream quote for today: “Dream big. Your attitude not your aptitude will determine your altitude.” – Zig Ziglar
I really have to apologize about being quiet. The reason for this is mainly the fact that I nowadays have someone special in my life : 3 If you’re an early follower you’ll know how much this means to me, and I have got to say, I’m living the dream ^^
Here’s what I want to share with you today: A very adorable baby frog C: Although some might find these little creatures ugly or even disgusting, I firmly believe that this buddy and his friends are just misunderstood and under appreciated.
Look at those legs :D
A dream quote for today: “Our dreams lift us high were the world becomes beautiful again.” ^^
The bed of reeds on our summer cottages beach has become home to a proud mommy duck and her babies. I caught the family on a tilted tree trunk on our beach and got to witness a pretty interesting series of events. Luckily I had my camera on hand and managed to get some photos of this as well.
At first I thought that the mother duck was sitting funny and looked a little chubby…
Soon it became obvious that the duck had in fact been warming her nine baby ducklings under her wings.
It was a cute family scene… until
Something threatening came towards the family. I didn’t see what it was but my guess would be the mink.
Suddenly the mom left and the ducklings were left alone. I tried to figure out why the mom left and came to the conclusion that the mother’s aims was to create a distraction, so that the babies could get away safely. Soon after, the ducklings had disappeared into the reeds, but the mom was nowhere to be seen. I got a little worried. Had the mink possibly made that dedicated mother into a dinner? I observed the situation and for a few hours there was nothing. But after about two and a half hours, the mother reappeared, seemingly unharmed. I was SO happy for them!
Today’s dream quote: “Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true” ^^
I promised more photos from our Finnish Juhannus, so here they are C:
The encounter with this little mink was totally unexpected. We both froze for a few seconds, but luckily I managed to fiddle the camera to take this photo before the guy came back to his senses and swam away. He too had a nice Midsummer feast coming up, at least judging by that poor duck.
The Yellow Irises were in full bloom on Juhannus. The bright yellow colour made a reflection to the surface of the lake too C:
This is a part of a tiny island we saw while boating. The islands terrain is like this all around, which is probably why the island is known as “Kallio Saari” -Cliff Island. It’s area is less than a kilometer, and it only has one summer cottage, meaning that the person owning the cottage, has the whole island to themselves. Pretty nice?
These Water Striders had it going on. And to be fair, Juhannus is for many, a time to drink, hook up with a hot hunk and have feverish animalistic sex. Not for me though :D At least not yet.
The Midsummer night is traditionally a night of love and magic. Flowers are tucked under pillows in the hopes of seeing one’s future spouse, women stand around wells, lakes, and ponds, nude, hoping to see they’re future husband on the surface of the water, and perhaps most extremely, a woman must go to a crossroads with three ways, stand in the middle of the crossroads, remove all her clothes, and then sweep a portion of each three ways. It is believed, that by doing so, the woman is making way for her future husband, who will then come to her. There are many many more tricks to be done on Juhannus night, but many of them are not commonly used of course :D How ever the flowers under the pillow is something I’ve done every year since I can remember, the husband is yet to be seen, but it is great fun!
A dream quote (well, sort of) for today, fitted for the Juhannus nights spirit of love: “Dream of me,” he said. “Dream of you? I’m doing that while I’m awake.” Oh, how true ;)
Today’s dream quote: “I believe that dreams – day dreams, you know, with your eyes wide open and your brain-machinery whizzing – are likely to lead to the betterment of the world. The imaginative child will become the imaginative man or woman most apt to create, to invent, and therefore to foster civilization.”
I love animals! When I get my own place I will deffinetly get a dog, hopefully a sausage dog, because they are adorable. After thinking about that I decide that I would make a post about the best animal photos I’ve taken C: So enjoy!
Isn’t he the cutest thing!? C:
And look at the size of those eyes C: Alpacas are sooo cute
And my friends dog with her begging look C;
My grandparent’s cat C:
An unquestionably adorable baby gull C: He’s a bit sleepy
And finally a happy swan family C:
And a dream quote: “Dreams come true. Without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.” <3
