Tuesday being Epiphany, and a rather sunny, although cold, winter day, I decided to go for a walk. I armed myself with my film camera and my iPhone, not really thinking about going to shoot something specific, but rather deciding to have them in case something happened to come up.
I walked to the river that flows through the town center and was faced with this.
At this point I was glad that I took my film camera, but obviously, the pictures I took with that are still in the roll of film that needs to be developed. I decided that I wanted to have some coloured pictures, and ones I could immediately show to other people, so I took a few snaps with the phone as well.
The conditions were perfect, the sun shining through the water that was evaporated thanks to the cold. I was ecstatic, and took more pictures with both of the cameras.
But then. DISASTER. Just as I had gotten to the most perfect spot, ready to snap a pic with the phone… A tiny thermometer appeared on the screen. Below it an announcement. The phone was going to shut itself right there and then. The reason? It needed to “cool down”. I mean for Christ’s sake, -20 celsius (that’s -4 F) is pretty cool to me. This really just takes the cake. That’s modern technology for you! :D
Thankfully the good old mechanical film camera worked like a charm.
A dream quote for today: ” Sometimes life is about risking everything for a dream no one can see but you” – Unknown
Remember what I said in my last post? About the interesting pictures that could have been made anywhere outside that day? We’ll here’s what I meant! Hair + breathing + cold weather = amazing :D
There’s something quite magical about this IMO. Doesn’t really look like hair either :D But it is my hair. The macro lens sure does deliver! C: (As usual, I haven’t processed these photos in any way in photoshop or anything like that.)
This last one was taken with a regular lens (aka not a macro lens). It’s not so magical anymore, as one can more clearly see that it’s my hair in the picture (and the black thing is my coat). You can’t get close with a regular lens, I even cropped this one a bit to shave of the excess picture i.e my nostrils and the zipper of the coat :D
I do quite like these, so I may have to work this idea again in the future.
A dream quote for today: “If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.”
PS. I went to the ER about my finger. Turns out it has a minor fracture, so now my pinky (which has the fracture) is nicely tied together with my ring finger… EXTREME it was :D
Today, it was again extremely cold. I had to really push myself to go outside to take some pictures. However the storm that apparently (I wasn’t here to witness it because I was in my other home) raged here a few weeks ago had resulted in a whole lot of things on the lakeside getting an icy coating. There were some pretty amazing ice formations, but unfortunately the light was not what I desired (aka the sun didn’t hit the icicles because it was shining so low) :c The ground beneath my feet had also gotten an icy coating, I discovered; I slipped and am now wondering about the possible need to go to the ER because of a possibly fractured finger… Extreme. :D
Babbling aside, here are the best pics. Enjoy!
I love this, but my infinite love for bridges might have something to do with it… :DD
Of course my love for ice it not a secret either ^^
This plant was not in the water line, but it had also been bitten by the cold
While walking by the lake I noticed that I would have been able to get some very interesting photos without having to have to go there. It would have sufficed to just go out side. I’ll show you what I meant in the next post. Hint: The cold air was a factor with this too C:
A dream quote for today: “Happiness is having a dream you cannot let go of and a partner who would never ask you to.” Now here’s a happiness I too wish to achieve ^^
I promised some wintery photos for you guys, so here they are C: At least we won’t have to worry about not having snow over Christmas :D The days are pretty short now too. It was only like 3 p.m when I took these, and already it was that dark.
And a dream quote: “Listen to your dreams for they are the answer to your future. Allow your dreams to guide you like an angel by your side” <3
Have a merry Christmas, and lots of angels by your side! ^^
The Finnish winter has shown it’s teeth. Yesterday it was a beautiful winter day in Joensuu, which I took advantage of by taking some photographs of frozen grass blades. I really am happy about buying that macro lens! :D Right now I’m sitting on a train on my way to the south. Ironically the weather is far worse in the southern Finland than it was in the north. There’s a huge blizzard roaring and the trains are running late by several hours. We are already running over 10 minutes late and we haven’t even reached the real blizzard zone yet. Hope I’ll get home safe D: Anyway, enjoy the pictures! ^^
A dream quote for today: “You will not do incredible things without an incredible dream.” ^^
Yesterday as I opened my site stats I noticed that someone had searched something from my blog using a search term “melancholic city”. Now I don’t know what they were looking for because I don’t remember putting up pictures of a melancholic city. But since it was cold and rainy and windy outside and I was feeling a bit melancholic myself, I thought if they want melancholic and murky and dark, that’s what they’ll get.
So I headed out with a hood for my head and a plastic bag for my camera. I found a summer theater (basically its just an auditorium outside, and people play theater there in the summer), and some old sets. It was certainly a dark place and a bit creepy too. As since it was just by the beach I did get some pretty gloomy pictures of that too. Hope you enjoy them, and hope they aid the need for melancholy!
A dream quote for today, with a hint of creepy to match: “I don’t want an epitaph on my gravestone that says, ‘She would have pursued some big dreams in her life, but other people wouldn’t let her.'”
