Yestreday I promised I would finish up this Lapland series, so here goes! First off, I couldn’t resist starting with the above picture. It is probably my favorite from the entire trip. It is taken about 11.20 p.m on top of Noitatunturi (lit. witch fell). What an amazing view!
The next stop in our hike was Karhunjuomalampi (lit. Bear’s drinking pond), where we filled our water bottles and ate some camping food. There was a lovely, rather modern lean-to, which we gladly utilized.
After that we started to walk to the top of Noitatunturi (lit. witch feel). The way was easy at first: just a slight incline and a good path. But as we got further to the top, it got steeper and the clear trail started to fade. The views were amazing though.
When we finally made it to the top, it was nearly midnight, and we were all incredibly tired. The view was surreal though. You wouldn’t have guessed it was so late, because the sun was up.
So after we got to the top, we set up our tent and tried to get to morning. The night was rather cold and windy, and it’s fair to say the mood didn’t exactly match the hight of our location. Thus, we quickly packed up our stuff and started to head down. The return route was on the opposite side from the one we had come, but the landscape was pretty similar.
After we got down, we arrived to Oravalampi (lit. Squirrelpond), where we again filled our water bottles and had something to eat in a lean-to.
Soon the trail changed into an easy-to-walk boardwalk again, and soon we emerged from to woods back to civilization.
I’ve been a poor blogger again. And I’ve been crazy busy, which is not new either. One day, after having spent quite a few hours desperately trying to grasp the concept of type 2 nucleofilic substitution (aka some mind boggling chemistry shit), I wondered what could clear out the cluttered recesses of my mind.
Oh, photography! I’ll just take my tripod and take some beautifully crisp and clear evening shots by the beach…. Waaaaiiiiit. How’s crisp and clear gonna relate to me when I’m more coarse and chaotic?
With that, I ditched the whole serenity theme, and the tripod, and went all out with some really abstract light graffiti photography. A great way to unwind!
Once again, no photoshop or anything the likes of used. Just added the signature with Paintbrush.

I wish I had more time to take photographs. I wish I had more time to cook. I wish I had more time to do the things I love. You guys ever feel like you don’t do anything fun anymore? I’ve been feeling like that for a while now. I mean I’ve been studying like crazy, thinking I just have to do this now so I can have fun later. It motivated me first, but not anymore. I mean what if I have a huge tumor stuck to my brain right now and I end up dying thinking I’ll have fun later. Unlikely as it may be it’s a possibility.
I guess the big take away from all this melancholy is that you really should not put off being happy. Sure, there are tedious things one has to keep doing, but you have to make sure you’re embracing life while you do them. The sun will set every night, but tonight may be the last time you’ll see it happen.
Here are some pictures of a sunset I saw

I really am an evening person. I love how the light quietly softens and finally creeps away. I love how the streetlights start switching on, one by one. I love it when the birds of the day get quiet and the mysterious night singers start. I love to see the shadows of threes and buildings change shape. I love the idea that any time now is the moment when you could get away with anything. I love how the city gets quiet. I love how all the benches in the park are unoccupied. I really love the night.
However, today there is a festival by the name of Ilosaarirock in town. I can here the music right now, inside my apartment. This city, as most cities in Finland, is usually very safe, even by night. But today, with 22 000 metal heads hanging around I really did feel a teensy bit uneasy when thinking about going for a walk at night. So, I had to reschedule my walk for earlier. I took my camera along just in case, and indeed, it was like a walk in the park to take some pictures on a walk in a park by the river.
I was really intrigued by the difference in the calmness of the river on the opposite sides of the water divider.
The lake was not calm at all.
On my way back, I saw these guys on their evening fishing trip. It may not be apparent in the silhouette, but these men were definitely the embodiment of three generations in their family. How traditional ^^

Yesterday we celebrated Juhannus with my family in our summer cottage. I have always enjoyed this tradition and the smaller traditions within the day. Here are a few shots taken that day.
One of the Juhannus day traditions, my collection of seven flowers to be put under the pillow: Campanula patula, Archillea millefolium, Vicia cracca, Trifolium pratense, Leucanthemum vulgare, Ranunculus acris and Matricaria perforata. Still no dream man in my dream :c Maybe next year.
A three teared midsummer’s strawberry cake : P Yummy.
My grandpa enjoying the Juhannus eve.
A beautiful way to end the day: a midsummer sunset around 0.30 AM
A dream quote for today: “I know nothing with certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream” ^^
The university has started again, which is one of the reason why I haven’t been updating recently. Yesterday nigh however, I took a little walk with my camera and managed to get a few nice shots C: The sky was overwhelmingly gorgeous! I never seem to get bored of sunsets :D Hope you enjoy the pictures! ^^
A dream quote for today: “One must desire something to be alive” ^^
Here are even more photos of my evening walk last saturday night. When you look at the light hitting the beach sand you wouldn’t easily believe that the temperature was in fact very wintery. Of course if you actually look at the picture you’ll notice there’s some ice in it too. But you get my point. I’m still amazed about the light. Today was such a lovely day too, unfortunately I didn’t have time to go take some photographs because I had to study microbiology… :/ Not really my piece of cake, but I’ll get through, hopefully.
Enjoy the photos! ^^
