The luring lupins

Published June 28, 2012 by Dreamreflector

There is an abandoned gravel pit near our house. I went through it as a part of a walk and found it was completely overtaken by lupins. They were every where, thousands and thousands in every direction and several color variations. I had to go back with a camera to take some pictures of them. Here are the results C:

A dream quote for today: “You have had a dream for so many years. Let today be the day you make a plan for it. Just think about how much more likely you are to hit your target when you finally aim at it.”

Ps. I got a letter yesterday stating that I have been accepted to the University of Eastern Finland to study biology. I am psyched! An other dream come true ^^

More about my Juhannus

Published June 24, 2012 by Dreamreflector

I promised more photos from our Finnish Juhannus, so here they are C:

The encounter with this little mink was totally unexpected. We both froze for a few seconds, but luckily I managed to fiddle the camera to take this photo before the guy came back to his senses and swam away. He too had a nice Midsummer feast coming up, at least judging by that poor duck.

The Yellow Irises were in full bloom on Juhannus. The bright yellow colour made a reflection to the surface of the lake too C:

This is a part of a tiny island we saw while boating. The islands terrain is like this all around, which is probably why the island is known as “Kallio Saari” -Cliff Island. It’s area is less than a kilometer, and it only has one summer cottage, meaning that the person owning the cottage, has the whole island to themselves. Pretty nice?

These Water Striders had it going on. And to be fair, Juhannus is for many, a time to drink, hook up with a hot hunk and have feverish animalistic sex. Not for me though :D At least not yet.

The Midsummer night is traditionally a night of love and magic. Flowers are tucked under pillows in the hopes of seeing one’s future spouse, women stand around wells, lakes, and ponds, nude, hoping to see they’re future husband on the surface of the water, and perhaps most extremely, a woman must go to a crossroads with three ways, stand in the middle of the crossroads, remove all her clothes, and then sweep a portion of each three ways. It is believed, that by doing so, the woman is making way for her future husband, who will then come to her. There are many many more tricks to be done on Juhannus night, but many of them are not commonly used of course :D How ever the flowers under the pillow is something I’ve done every year since I can remember, the husband is yet to be seen, but it is great fun!

A dream quote (well, sort of) for today, fitted for the Juhannus nights spirit of love: “Dream of me,” he said. “Dream of you? I’m doing that while I’m awake.”  Oh, how true ;)

A Midsummer day in Finland

Published June 23, 2012 by Dreamreflector

Yesterday we Finns celebrated the Midsummer, and I too put my daily life on hold to be replaced by a rudimentary summer cottage on the lake side, sausages scorched on an open fire and potato salad. Sounds pretty weird to some maybe, but it’s a tradition loved by the whole nation C: I did manage to take some photographs here and there, though, and here are a few of them ^^ Enjoy!

This is a close up from our Juhannus kokko, which is a bonfire usually made of branches and wooden objects that are no longer in use, old shelves, floorboards, what ever is around. Our kokko was pretty small, but many people make them several meters high.

“No smoke without a fire” says the Finnish saying, but it’s certainly true the other way around too, as we soon found out.

A view near our cottage C:

More Juhannus pictures in future posts!

A dream quote for today: “He who robs us of our dreams robs us of our life.” ^^

OBJECTified part 2

Published June 20, 2012 by Dreamreflector

So this is the second post featuring my photographs about objects. Hope you like them, because I sure have had fun capturing them! ^^

Beauty can be found in unexpected places C: The final part, part three coming up soon!

A dream quote for today: “Don’t you find it odd, that when you’re a kid, everyone, all the world, encourages you to follow your dreams. But when you’re older, somehow they act offended if you even try.” Now there’s something to think about!

Don’t forget that you can find all the quotes I have shared in previous posts and a few more photos from the “Dream quotes ^^” page right here -> https://mydreamrealities.wordpress.com/dream-quotes/ And be sure to check part 1 of OBJECTified too, if you haven’t already C:

Stop Bugging Me

This guy sure did :D

A nice macro shot taken by me C:

Today’s dream quote: “I believe that dreams – day dreams, you know, with your eyes wide open and your brain-machinery whizzing – are likely to lead to the betterment of the world.  The imaginative child will become the imaginative man or woman most apt to create, to invent, and therefore to foster civilization.”

Down by the lake

Published June 17, 2012 by Dreamreflector

I walked on to a nearby lake last night, and took a few photos C: I love lakes, and they are plenty here in Finland. Hope you like them!

A dream quote for today: “The inability to open up to hope is what blocks trust, and blocked trust is the reason for blighted dreams.”  ^^

Hope you have a nice day!

A sunny day

Just a few summery shots C:

And a cute squirrel for a bonus. The quality is rather awful but I just think he’s posture’s so funny. He looks like he’s leaning to a bar counter or something.

And a dream quote for today: “The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary.” ^^

I am definitely going to buy more stay-ups

Published June 10, 2012 by Dreamreflector

I took some photography today, and since many people seem to be enjoying them I’m gonna give you a few to look at. The professional photographer who took my graduation photo, told me that you can use pantyhose or stay-ups as a softer for your camera. I still had the stay-ups I wore on graduation so I decided to give it a try. And I have to admit, it does make a nice effect. It rained last night so I got some pretty decent water droplet pictures too C:

I find it so amazing that such simple things like water, can look so beautiful.

These two pictures have been taken with the same settings almost at the same time (plus minus 5 seconds) but the first one was taken without the stay-up sock and the second one with it. The difference is surprisingly big, don’t you agree? The stay-up really smooths the color scheme up.

And using the stay-up can give a unifying, almost impersonal effect too. Again, the same settings and all, the first without the stay up, the second with it.

I think I’m going to use this trick in the future too C:

A dream quote for today: “Have the courage to follow your dreams. It’s the first step towards attaining your destiny.” ^^
