The signs of Autumn

Published September 8, 2013 by Dreamreflector

It’s really becoming clear, that Autumn is coming. The mornings are crisp, the yellow-green ratio in the front yard birch is rapidly changing, and we had a hands-on course on fungi (mushrooms that is) at the university. Here are a few “Autumny” pictures I have taken C:

^^

I found this weathered feather on the water bank and decided to prop him up so he could see the sunset : 3

D:

The wind was rough and so were the waves.

:D

This poor buddy was clinging to one of the rocks for dear life. I have no idea about the species :c

C:

I walked to the lake through a forest and discovered this little blueberry leaf blushing. Perhaps he saw a cute lingonberry nearby? :D

I really can’t decide how I feel about Autumn. There’s parts of it I like and parts that I don’t. Good thing it comes even though I’m undecided. Do you like Autumn?

It’s like a walk in the park

Published July 15, 2013 by Dreamreflector

I really am an evening person. I love how the light quietly softens and finally creeps away. I love how the streetlights start switching on, one by one. I love it when the birds of the day get quiet and the mysterious night singers start. I love to see the shadows of threes and buildings change shape. I love the idea that any time now is the moment when you could get away with anything. I love how the city gets quiet. I love how all the benches in the park are unoccupied. I really love the night.

However, today there is a festival by the name of Ilosaarirock in town. I can here the music right now, inside my apartment. This city, as most cities in Finland, is usually very safe, even by night. But today, with 22 000 metal heads hanging around I really did feel a teensy bit uneasy when thinking about going for a walk at night. So, I had to reschedule my walk for earlier. I took my camera along just in case, and indeed, it was like a walk in the park to take some pictures on a walk in a park by the river.

Enjoy! C:

(:

I was really intrigued by the difference in the calmness of the river on the opposite sides of the water divider.

^^

The lake was not calm at all.

C:

On my way back, I saw these guys on their evening fishing trip. It may not be apparent in the silhouette, but these men were definitely the embodiment of three generations in their family. How traditional ^^

Mommy duck

Published June 20, 2013 by Dreamreflector

The bed of reeds on our summer cottages beach has become home to a proud mommy duck and her babies. I caught the family on a tilted tree trunk on our beach and got to witness a pretty interesting series of events. Luckily I had my camera on hand and managed to get some photos of this as well.

1

At first I thought that the mother duck was sitting funny and looked a little chubby…

2

Soon it became obvious that the duck had in fact been warming her nine baby ducklings under her wings.

3

It was a cute family scene… until

4

Something threatening came towards the family. I didn’t see what it was but my guess would be the mink.

5

Suddenly the mom left and the ducklings were left alone. I tried to figure out why the mom left and came to the conclusion that the mother’s aims was to create a distraction, so that the babies could get away safely. Soon after, the ducklings had disappeared into the reeds, but the mom was nowhere to be seen. I got a little worried. Had the mink possibly made that dedicated mother into a dinner? I observed the situation and for a few hours there was nothing. But after about two and a half hours, the mother reappeared, seemingly unharmed. I was SO happy for them!

Extremes

Published December 26, 2012 by Dreamreflector

Today, it was again extremely cold. I had to really push myself to go outside to take some pictures. However the storm that apparently (I wasn’t here to witness it because I was in my other home) raged here a few weeks ago had resulted in a whole lot of things on the lakeside getting an icy coating. There were some pretty amazing ice formations, but unfortunately the light was not what I desired (aka the sun didn’t hit the icicles because it was shining so low) :c The ground beneath my feet had also gotten an icy coating, I discovered; I slipped and am now wondering about the possible need to go to the ER because of a possibly fractured finger… Extreme. :D

Babbling aside, here are the best pics. Enjoy!

C:

I love this, but my infinite love for bridges might have something to do with it… :DD

:D

:)

Of course my love for ice it not a secret either ^^

(:

This plant was not in the water line, but it had also been bitten by the cold

While walking by the lake I noticed that I would have been able to get some very interesting photos without having to have to go there. It would have sufficed to just go out side. I’ll show you what I meant in the next post. Hint: The cold air was a factor with this too C:

An evening, part 2

This is the second post featuring my photos taken at a singing camp. Read part one here -> https://mydreamrealities.wordpress.com/2012/10/14/an-evening-part-1/
Enjoy the photography! ^^

Ps. Please bear with me during the quiet time that’s coming again. The Internet is pretty much useless here, as you know, so I can’t give you new posts again in a while :c

An evening, part 1

Published October 14, 2012 by Dreamreflector

I was at a singing camp with the choir a few weekends ago. It involved a lot of singing but we also had some free time in the evening. As the camp was held near the nature in a biological research center belonging to our university I of course brought my camera along and used the spare time to take some photos. I’m going to divide the photos into two posts to keep the length reasonable.

Lake Evajärvi

Published July 15, 2012 by Dreamreflector

Firstly, I do apologize for the massive eleven day break I have taken in blogging :O I have been insanely busy, what with the summer camp and the quest of trying to find a place near my future university to rent and all. I have also been thinking about starting a blog featuring me singing. But the idea is nothing more than a dream yet, because I don’t have proper equipment and I’ve got no idea how to make sure no one’s going to claim they are singing when I am.

Well that’s that then, here are some pictures C: I spent a night in a cottage with friends a few days ago. It was in a very quiet place, and we had the small lake Evajärvi to our selves. I stayed up rather late, and got to witness a pretty sight: the air chilling to the point where the water in the lake was warmer than the air above caused the water to start to evaporate in a haze.

Down by the lake

I walked on to a nearby lake last night, and took a few photos C: I love lakes, and they are plenty here in Finland. Hope you like them!
